While Oakly managed the overall transformation — including interlock patios, lighting, planting, and irrigation — our role was to deliver a flawless sod installation that would instantly breathe life into the space.

This wasn’t just a quick refresh — it was a precision-driven process designed to create a lawn that’s beautiful on day one and built to thrive for years.

A Seamless Collaboration: How Oakly Landscaping Made the Sod Installation Process Effortless.

Working with Oakly Landscaping on this project was seamless from start to finish. Their team provided a clear scope, precise timelines, and all the details we needed to hit the ground running. Step 1: Preparing the Site for Success

Before a single roll of sod was laid, we took steps to protect the homeowner’s existing landscaping. This included:

Marking the installation area with clear boundaries.
Covering garden beds and hardscapes with plywood to prevent damage.
Flagging every sprinkler head to avoid accidental impact during grading.

We then used professional sod cutters and a Bobcat to remove up to 3 inches of old grass, ensuring a clean base. All removed material was loaded and hauled away, keeping the site spotless throughout the process.

Step 2: Building a Healthy Foundation

A lawn’s long-term success depends heavily on the quality of its soil. For this project, we used premium triple-mix topsoil, chosen for its nutrient-rich composition and excellent drainage properties. This layer helps the Kentucky Bluegrass sod root quickly and evenly.

We graded the entire area with a gentle slope away from buildings to prevent water pooling, then used a lawn roller to compact the soil and create a perfectly even surface for sod placement.

Step 3: Laying Fresh Kentucky Bluegrass Sod

We sourced freshly cut Kentucky Bluegrass from Greenhorizon for its dense growth pattern, deep green color, and durability in Ontario’s climate. The sod was laid in a staggered, brick-like pattern to maximize strength and visual appeal, ensuring there were no long seams that could shift or dry out.

Every roll was trimmed and fitted carefully around garden beds, armour stone features, and walkways. This attention to detail creates the crisp, professional edges that set our work apart.

Step 4: Compacting, Finishing & Client Handover

After all sod was in place, we rolled the lawn again to press the roots firmly into the prepared soil. This step ensures maximum root-to-soil contact, helping the sod establish faster.

Once complete, the area was thoroughly cleaned, with no excess soil or sod scraps left behind. We conducted a full walkthrough with the client to ensure they were thrilled with the results. Finally, we provided a detailed sod care package outlining watering schedules, mowing tips, and maintenance best practices to protect their investment.
